Ten for Tuesday
I want to lighten up the mood a bit after last night’s rant about the gay adoption ban in Arkansas. So, here is a new segment: Ten for Tuesday. I’ll post 10 things you probably don’t know about me. It’s like having an invitation to be a voyeur into my life.
Feel free to join in with a few of your own.
Ten Things You Don’t Know and Maybe You Don’t Want to Know
- I consider cooking an art form. I rarely follow a recipe and love to experiment.
- I paint with oils.
- I like to sleep in complete darkness. So much so, I’ve started using one of those sleeping masks. I love it.
- When I get excited or otherwise emotional, I wiggle my toes.
- I have a tatoo somewhere on my body. It’s a red Chinese character meaning Love and was done by an artist named Bean. He had a copyright symbol on his neck and tiger claw scratches on his cheek. (They were a tatoo, not actual scratches.)
- The only foreign countries I’ve traveled to were Canada, Mexico and Fiji. Fiji was by far my favorite. I stayed for 3 weeks and went alone when I was 20 years old.
- I love to fly. In an airplane, not a broom despite what some might think.
- My heroes are: Oprah, Pres.-elect Obama, Samuel L. Jackson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Molly Ivins and Cormac McCarthy.
- I think Stephen King has more genius than he gets credit for.
- My first cat was named Puck.
That’s it for today. Tell me a few things about yourself and throw in a link to your blog/website. I would love to learn more about you.

My first cat, showing my physics-major/geeky side, was named Schroedinger.
My dogs are named Parker and Wodehouse for Dorothy and P.G.
I used to, but no longer because I am lazy, make killer pumpernickel.
I’m going to blast a cap in someone’s ass if I don’t get a damn call from the Disney-ABC people soon…

I love the Schroedinger reference.
And I use to make biscuits from scratch, but also am too lazy to do this.
And I hope I’m not around you when you feel a need to blast a cap in someone’s ass. Better yet, I hope you get that call….
Everyone laughs at me when I say that Stephen King is an incredibly talented writer. I’m glad someone else is willing to say it. People must buy his books and then hide them, I don’t know.

I think the horror genre isn’t very respected. But there are lines in his books that blow me away. One of my favs is Salems Lot. Hearts in Atlantis is good too.
And there is a lot of symbolism, metaphors, etc. - you can usually find some psychological insight or indictment on society in them if you are paying attention.
I think people assume because monsters, evil & the supernatural is involved that he is only beach trash fiction.
I agree about Stephen King.
I think comedy isn’t well respected either. I always thought Jim Carrey and Bill Murray were much better actors than they were given credit for. I felt so justified after Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Lost in Translation.
My first cat was named Mr. Big Stuff - I think I was three when I named him. I don’t remember if he was really all that big though

I agree about Jim Carrey and Bill Murray. I thought Jim Carrey was great in Truman Show. And it irritates me how some of the more popular shows seem to get skipped when it comes to awards if it happens to be comedy/comic book type genre.

[...] astounding failure, so I’m going to continue until I lose interest….In case you missed the first one, I’ll list 10 things you didn’t know about me and maybe wished you didn’t. [...]
I absolutely love to cook and refuse to use a recipe. That is how I was taught by my mother and her mother and so on… Set to music, cooking is my therapy!
My first pet was an alley cat named Moe, he had two sisters named Curly and Lori. Their savior was a Three Stooges fan.
I love to travel, so much so that I tried to get a job as a flight attendent so I can always escape when I get the itch. I once made a rash decision last summer and moved to Madrid for a month. Great experience!! It’s is very liberating to wander and explore a foriegn country when you don’t speak the language!
Sounds exciting (moving to Madrid)!
And yes - I see recipes as more of a suggestion than a set of concrete rules. It’s also why I don’t enjoy baking quite so much. Baking doesn’t allow for the creativity cooking does.
