Small Pleasures
When Oprah started making the big bucks, she bought towels. I understand that feeling. I want towels. And coffee cups. The sturdy kind that feels just right in your hand and doesn’t hold too much or too little coffee. But even more than that – I want wine glasses. And nice champagne glasses, margarita glasses, martini glasses…. Well you get the point. I want a nice set of adult beverage stemware. And glass racks.
I’d also like stemware racks. Or some sort of bar cabinet, beautifully finished – maybe mahogany, a place to store all the liquor with a lock, keep the kids out, that sort of thing. I don’t drink much. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I had a glass of wine or a cocktail. But I’d like to know I could easily pour a glass or mix something up if I wanted. And, do it in style. The vision: All alone in my boudoir, wearing a beautiful silk gown and robe, I open the wine cabinet and mix up a Tom Collins or Gin and Tonic with a bit of lime. Then, I open the latest novel I’m reading and get lost in another world. It sounds grown-up, sophisticated and the height of self-indulgent. Something I don’t often get – indulging my self.
So, I’ve been dreaming of all the wine glass racks for sale and imagining how it will be when I finally get on my feet again, decorate, set up house and do all those things I look forward to doing.
What is it you want? Any small pleasures you always wanted to give yourself?
