I Do Not Need a Man

I do not need a man
But a village; To keep me
A word, a smile, a touch
The voice of a friend
Laughter, Comrade

I do not a need a man
For contentment
But the hopping, the pecking of a bird
Searching, Pulling, Flying to a home unseen
An insect, diving, hopping, fluttering
Searching for the nectar – fulfillment

I do not need a man
To see my worth; But a mirror;
Found in the eyes of a child,
The warmth in a voice
“Are you ok?”

I do not need a man
But sunlight, warm on my face
A caressing breeze on my cheek
The shadow as it falls across an empty chair

I do not need a man
But a village
A part to play
Unity, Solidarity, Harmony
I do not need a man; but a friend
