One Great Idea

It’s almost here. Back to school shopping. With all that’s going on, I nearly forgot. Well, not quite. It’s hard not to realize your son needs new clothes when he sports pants ready for even the most calamitous of floods.

But, I keep putting it off. I mean, it’s still a few weeks away. What’s the rush? The hassle of getting all the kids dressed and hauling all the stuff necessary for a trip (diapers, teddy bears, sippy cups, snacks) outside the house for a few hours is a pain I like to avoid. Plus, it’s an event in itself just to get in the car. Getting everyone buckled in and snapped up – listening to cries of ‘I want to sit in the middle!’, ‘He’s got my toy!’ and ‘Mommy! This seatbelt is hot!’ while chasing the youngest around the car because it’s funny to see Mommy run – this is not the shopping I used to enjoy with girlfriends. It’s torture.

This year, I’ve considered shopping for clothes online. Can you imagine how much more peaceful that could be? At night, when the kids are in bed, slipping off to my room, just me and my laptop, a glass of wine and the latest Lifetime Movie playing in the background. It sounds almost relaxing! No fighting kids to referee. No whines for the toys or candy. No little two year throwing toe fungus cream in my shopping cart.

And with companies like Zappos.com offering free shipping, there’s no extra charge for the convenience of buying at home. They even offer free shipping back, should something not fit quite the way I hoped. And I get to keep my sanity. Sounds like a great idea to me.

Welcome back!
