Tag, I’m It! My Seven Things….

I got tagged by @coyotesqrl to blog about 7 things you may not know about me. After reading his list, I have big shoes to fill to make it interesting, so here goes:

  1. I used to want to have 30 children. But that was before they showed a video in the third grade explaining (showing) a woman in labor. Then I wondered for a long time why the hell a woman would do that to herself.
  2. I supposedly have Benjamin Franklin as an ancestor. Or at least, according to my great-grandmother who died at 96 many many years ago one of our female ancestors was the illegitimate child of Mr. Franklin himself. Family lore. And from what I’ve read of the man, this is highly possible.
  3. I hate conflict. I hate it so much that at times it might appear that I’m doing the political crap of greasing both sides of the fence (is this an analogy?I think it’s a very mixed one.) but it’s really that I hate fighting, I hate being involved with people fighting so I try as much as possible to find common ground with everyone hoping to get all sides to get along.
  4. I won a music writing contest in the Fifth grade. I still have the music and the certificate somewhere in a box. I don’t think I was that great. I think I won because not many people entered and my hand drawn music notes were very pretty. I actually have sinced composed and played (in public) music of my own creation.
  5. My great-grandfather was a Swedish immigrant. He married a French-Canadian woman and somehow they settled in Michigan. I’m also Irish/German/Scottish/English. I’m a mutt.
  6. I’m accident-prone. Growing up, at least every other year I suffered a major accident on the left side of my body. I’ve broken bones, cut 2 inches deep into skin, suffered head injuries….
  7. My family had a run-in with Pancho Villa. My Great-Grandma on my mom’s side once hid with her 3 sons in a field as Pancho Villa tore through the country side raping and pillaging. Our family managed to stay hidden, sight unseen. My great grandfather was away working at the time.
So, that’s my 7. Now I’ll have to tag seven of my tweeps….. I pick @SensualStories, @Dave_Malby, @AJae, @affirmingspirit, @kwbridge, @binmugahid, @Theresa_Kuyl

Coolio! Ben Franklin wouldn’t have hidden from Villa, though. He’d have invited him in and gotten him drunk.

Ha ha! Chances are, if the rest of the family had been there at the time (not just my grandma) that would have been their approach too.

Wow! 30 children? Before I got married, I told my brother-in-law that I wanted 5. I have no recollection of saying this but I guess I’ll believe him.

I’m related to Woodrow Wilson. He was my grandfather’s uncle (on my Dad’s side). I think it would be cooler to be related to Franklin though.

    Aren’t most Americans mutts? ;-)

Pancho Villa? Wow, that is something not a lot of people can say!

@kwoodbridge – Hey! Wow about Wilson… I have some other notables in my family tree. Wouldn’t it be funny to find out we were long lost cousins? You do look a lot like some of my family members so you never know…

steve – yep…. Pancho Villa. We also were friends w/ Pat Garrett of the Billy the Kid fame.

    Hey, Tawnya,

Thanks for tagging me…No, really! I so enjoyed reading your list that I realized I needed to complete the task so others could have the chance to learn about me, too. If you hadn’t tagged me, BELIEVE ME, I wouldn’t have been motivated to complete the full list.

    BTW, eerie similarities…

I, too, thought I wanted tons of kids…until I saw my nephew a few minutes after birth. He was all wrinkled and RED and crying…he looked MISERABLE. I just thought, UGH…I cannot do that to another human being. LOL!

Oh, and about those videos they show in 3rd grade…yeah…I could not understand how sex could possibly be enjoyable. It just looked PAINFUL. I remember asking the teacher how much it hurts and couldn’t understand why she was visibly holding back laughter. What’s so funny about that question?

I also used to hate conflict…then I married MR. CONFLICT . Not only did the marriage not last, but I had to learn to set boundaries for self-defense (literally, emotionally, etc.).

I’m Irish/English/Austrian (by birth) and my son is also Swedish and Russian (son of MR CONFLICT). Eventually, the whole Earth will be mutts… ;-) You’ll be in the majority.

Also, I was always accident-prone until my second husband kept teasing me about it…I decided to consciously become more aware. Since then: No accidents. Was that an accident? Don’t think so. ;-)

Other than that…no famous relatives (that I know of, ha ha ha) or run-ins with Pancho Villa.

    Thanks again for tagging me!
    Nancy
