10 For Tuesday

After a week off, we’re back with more juicy tidbits you never knew you wanted to know. This is your invitation to be voyeur into my life. And – like always, reciprocity is even more fun. Show me yours and I’ll show you mine!

  1. I modeled for a while. When I was 4. :)
  2. I went to prom with husband #2. See picture below. I would have posted a picture but it appears my scanner is not compatible with Windows Vista. (Ugh!) We reunited through classmates.com when I was online reading about my 10 yr reunion.
  3. I’m a natural blonde. But, I dye my hair dark red because I like the way it makes my eyes pop. Of course, two years ago I went all platinum on everybody. It was way fun, but too much work to maintain. People thought I was her daughter.
  4. One of my favorite books is Wuthering Heights. I love the tension between Katherine & Heathcliffe. My favorite quote? “” . . . he’s more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same….”
  5. Rachmaninoff rocks my soul. There is something about his compositions that make me feel he was reading a piece of me when he wrote them. I discovered him in Fiji. We played his CDs at night while enjoying the ocean view and drinking tea.
  6. If I had to limit myself to 3 foods for the rest of my life, I would choose bread, wine and cheese. Everything else I could do without.
  7. I’m an ex-smoker. And I’m happy about it. But – if I knew without a doubt the very minute I would kick the bucket – I would start smoking and drinking heavily. Just to enjoy it one last time. With my luck, however, I would find the cigarettes tasting like crap and hate the smell so much I couldn’t enjoy it. For now, I’ll enjoy the clear feeling in my lungs.
  8. I have small toes. None of that ‘wow, your toes look like fingers!’ for me. And I find most men’s feet unattractive.
  9. I eat PB&J with cheetos on it. Don’t know why, just always have. And it’s yum – my favorite comfort food snack. That & grilled cheese w/ tomato soup.
  10. I once wore a wreath of flowers in my hair to school on a dare. Yep, I was cool alright.

So what about you?

Welcome back!

    I hope I don’t repeat anything I’ve written before.

    1. My first, second, third, fourth, etc concerts were The Grateful Dead.
    2. I later became a huge Tori Amos fan.
    3. I have since moved on to being all about everything Greg Dulli.
    4. I love elephants.
    5. I’m left handed. So is my mother, my daughter, and most of my female relatives.
    6. I have a tattoo of a fairy.
    7. My favorite food is peas. I put them in almost everything.
    8. I eat cereal dry.
    9. I know how to drive a stick but haven’t driven a car since 1999.
    10. I’m a little addicted to Twitter.

That’s really cool about your husband :-) Everyone I look up is “happily” married ;-)

I’ve never heard of Greg Dulli. I need to check him out. I’m almost embarassed to say my first concert (Trisha Yearwood – don’t even like country THAT much) & then Weird AL was concert #2.

A lefty? I’m jealous. I think lefty’s are cool. & I’m WAY addicted to twitter.

So cool learning more about you!

Greg Dulli was in a 90’s alternative band called The Afghan Whigs. Then around 2000 he started The Twilight Singers. He’s still doing that and has also teamed up with Mark Lanegran to form The Gutter Twins. People either love him or hate him.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit the whole Grateful Dead thing ;-) I love Weird Al – I like him as a person – he’s delightfully weird.

I like finding out about bands I’ve never heard of before! And why be embarassed about Grateful Dead? That’s like me being embarassed of totally digging the Beatles or Poco… Or the Doobie Brothers… :)

I love your blog! You eat PB&J with cheetos…I like peanut butter, mayo, lettuce and cheddar cheese sandwiches. Weird, no? But delish.

I also totally dig grilled cheese and tomato soup — for me it needs to be Kraft American cheese (2% milk will do), white bread, and Campbell’s tomato soup to really scratch the comfort itch.

Wow@ Never herad of the PB&Mayo w/ cheese. Maybe sometime I’ll try it.

    Here goes nothing….

    1. I was engaged for almost 4 years. He cheated – two weeks later I met Brandon. Eight months later Brandon and I married. That was almost 11 years ago.
    2. I finally have the job I always dreamed of – a college professor at a research university and I pretty much hate it! Okay, the truth is I LOVE the teaching part, but the research part is driving me nuts! I love to write, but just don’t have the time anymore to do the hard core research that is needed to be truly successful in this game. So where do I go from here…
    3. I have always been insanely jealous of your artistic abilities and free spirit. I wish I cared less about what the rest of the world thinks and lived more “as myself”. I don’t even know how to start doing that. I would probably need less meds if I did though.
    4. I was never sure I wanted kids of my own. The kids in my class were mine. Once I had a child of my own, I wanted a huge family. My husband really didn’t want any – he loved our carefree lifestyle. So, we basically compromised at two kids (which he loves dearly and is a great dad too). But I secretly hope we will still have more. Am I crazy! Didn’t I just say I have no time…
    5. Growing up I could not wait to get out of T-town. While away at college, I never came home (and it was only an hour away). Upon graduation, I immediately moved out of state – and I didn’t even have a job! No way was I going back to that back to that small town. Did I mention I moved to an even smaller town to avoid my “own” small town? Now, many years later, I am beginning to miss the familiarity of the place where I born and raised. All the small town stuff I hated so much growing up looks more appealing as a wife and mother. I think the traffic is getting to me :-) .
    6. In Junior high, our “click” had nicknames. You were Porch, Wendy was Mercedes, and I don’t think I got a name. Why not? Do I have issues? That was like a million years ago (LOL).
    7. I love tomato soup with burnt popcorn dropped in it. I discovered this little treat when I was trying to lose weight in high school and have loved it ever since. Is that weird?
    8. My kids initials are both L.P.L. – Landon Paul & Lyllian Parker. I had no reason for that I just did it and can you believe I spelled my little girls name that way? Do you think she will hate me? I can remember the discussions we have had about your name. I tell people the story of how your dad named you all the time. I love it!
    9. I love pink – which I always hated until about 5 years ago. I have no idea what changed my mind, but all of the sudden I realized I like pink, gaughty jewelry, skirts, the whole nine yards. I was never that girly. Was I?
    10. A little over 10 years ago, I was laid up naked in surgical recovery. Needless to say I did not have my glasses on and was pretty drugged up. However, I will never forget what transpired. A woman walked in, lifted up my gown, took a quick look at my unmentionables and said “looks good”. She must have been writing this assessment up in my chart when she realized who I was – then I realized who she was. It was your mom! So, what does a naked girl on a table say to her Jr High best friend’s mom after she has just been checking on your girl parts? LOL… I don’t even remember – I know I asked about you, but couldn’t tell you anything else. I don’t know if it was the drugs or the embarrassment!

Okay, so I could go on and on. This is fun, kind of like therapy. I guess that would explain why some of mine are probably a little deeper than what you were looking for. I probably should seek professional help. LOL.

I love your blog! Thanks for sharing such AWESOME writing!

ROFL. Oh my god. Did I say I missed you?!?! I so do. You, Misty & Wendy (though she betrayed me later, took a while getting over it too!) helped me keep my sanity through junior high.

Oh I hated school till college. I was always ‘misunderstood’ and not nearly the little tart and bad seed people thought I was. LOL It was easier to be ‘artistic’ in college than it was in JR/SR high. In T-town, people thought you were odd if you didn’t fit into their archaic decades behind mold of what folks ought to be!

Ok, my mom told me she saw you, BUT never how & why…. LOL I can’t imagine how I would have reacted. That is hilarious.

Now, why was my nickname ‘Porch’? I’m almost afraid to know (I can’t remember, though I remember Wendy’s.) So, email me tawnya at awomansblog.com.

Yeah, my first husband cheated too. At least, he got as close as he could when I let him go. Really affected me.

So much, so much to say. Email me so I can give you my number or give me yours. I would LOVE to catch up!

oooh I love Rachmaninoff! and though I have a very eclectic music collection, I have to say, I’ve seen Trisha Yearwood 3? or 4 times in concert. The only other performers I’ve seen that often are Patti Smith, R.E.M., Ben Harper, Lucinda Williams, and Neil Young if you consider Bridge School Benefit…

Oh and my cousin is currently dating her Jr. High Prom date (for the past year, so who knows…) that’s kind of awesome you met up again through classmates!

I’m fairly eclectic myself – in more ways than just music – haven’t been to many concerts – I’d love to change that tho. Everything from Opera & Classical, to rap, hip hop, heavy metal, some country but not too much… It’d be easier to talk about what I don’t like.

    Hey! Thanks for stopping by!

    1. When I was younger, people told me I looked like Shirley Temple, Marie Osmond and Emma Samms (Holly on GH). Not all “You look like…” are compliments.

    2. My mom told me that when I wasn’t married by 30, she thought that I’d be single for life. She said I was too picky.

    3. I live a charmed life and am the envy of strangers: hubby does all of the grocery shopping and cooking, AND is good enough to be a gourmet chef.

    4. I had my “midlife crisis” at 25 when I realized I didn’t want to practice law for the rest of my professional career. After being a Kelly girl (read: temp), I happily landed in PR where I’ve been ever since.

    5. My husband wore a kilt at our wedding. I go weak in the knees for men in kilts.

    6. My vices: chick lit and scrapbooking. I have a ridiculously large collection of chick lit that is only rivaled by my scrapping supplies.

    7. I can’t ride a bike. Seriously.

    9. I am a huge fan of Detroit Derby Girls. I cheer and yell so much I’m hoarse the next day. I have a DDG t-shirt. I even bought derby-themed necklaces on etsy.com to wear to DDG games.

    9. My first concert was the Beach Boys. I went with my mom (dad was home sick) and was embarrassed by her dancing. It took me years to realize she was enjoying the moment.

    10. I was once recognized on the street from a photo taken during spring break. Word is that I wound up in a calendar of girls from spring break. For the record, I was fully clothed. I hope I wound up as one of the “good months,” not a short one like February.

Congrats on PR. I think I had my mid-life at 30 & it might still be going on! lol
    & I love kilts too….

    Thanks for stopping by!

    1) I love Jane Austens “Pride and Prejudice” – I would love to live in this time for a while “does anyone know the mini series “Lost in Austen”? – It’s so funny and lovely)

    2) When I’m watching the film “Chocolat” I have to eat lots of chocolate and make a chokolate fondue :-)

    3) I always have bruises – I don’t know why and where I get them

    4) I loved to be an actress when I was a teenager (who does not?!?)

    5) Sometimes I smoke – not regularly, but about 3 – 10 cigarettes a week

    6) I love French fries with lots of sugar

    7) I love music that rocks my soul: Dream Theater is my favourite band

    8) I lived in the USA for three month (Philadelphia)

    9) I got my first grey hair when I was 25 (now there are some more but they are “invisible”)

    10) I love to have little nail stickers (only on my ring finger) but I hate to do manicure
