My Random Thoughts During the Debate

Just tuned in and am wondering how it will go. Will McCain push Ayers? This post might not sound cohesive. I am just sharing my thoughts as they ocurred during the debate. Perhaps you had the same thoughts. Maybe you didn’t. Let me know.

On the first question, Mc Cain has not quite yet answered why his plan is better than Obama’s. He is talking about his plan, but not quite on task. Annoying. Why can’t politicians answer the question and then back up their answer?

Obama does make one point about how his rescue plan is better – he mentions trying to save tax payer money.  I’m not sure why Mc Cain tries to keep hammering over and over again about how Obama would raise small biz taxes. From what I’ve read, it appears only a small portion would pay higher taxes. Here is a link to check out what you would pay taxes: http://taxcut.barackobama.com/.

Mc Cain keeps talking about Ireland but my European Hubby tells me Ireland’s taxes are so low because the cost of everything else related to business is so high they are trying to make it seem worthwhile. Hence, low taxes.

What’s a spending freeze anyhow? Does this mean no one receives medicare and medicaid? Does this mean there is no more money spent in Iraq? And what happens to our children in public school?

I wish Mc Cain could tell the truth about Obama. I liked the joke Obama made about how Fox News disputes the idea that Obama raised taxes on families making 42,000 a year. Great joke. Why can’t Mc Cain just try to argue his policies instead of trying to mislead people about Obama.

I’m probably prejudiced but I don’t think Obama has led a very negative campaign at all. I remember a few jabs but I felt Mc Cain deserved them. Like the whole ‘I don’t know how many houses I have’ bit. I don’t feel the lack of town hall meetings has anything to do with how negative Mc Cain’s ads have been. And, yes, what about all that crap about ‘pals around with terrorists’ and the aftershocks seen when Palin holds a rally? All the hate being spewed like ‘Terrorist’ and ‘Kill him’.

Which Obama just addressed, so I’m pretty happy. And now he’s addressing Ayers and ACORN. Go Obama!

Good points – economic associations: Warren Buffet, Paul Volker
foreign policy associations: Joe Biden, Dick Luger, Jim Jones

It seems like Obama is relaxed. I wonder how others view this. The CNN perception meter seems to favor Obama, but you can’t be sure.

Yes, Americans have gotten to know Sarah Palin and we don’t like her. I don’t think the fact she understands special needs families is a selling point, although it is an admiral quality.  I understand what it’s like to be poor, but it doesn’t make me qualified to be on a finance committee, much less, become VP – and neither is Sarah Palin.

Health care – I need lower premiums and I would love to have a Senator’s health plan. I like Obama’s plan – it’s a step in the right direction. Mc Cain’s will not work. How many families will really use the extra money at the end of the year to buy health care for the year to come? And how does it help you BEFORE you get the tax credit? And what about taxing the health care benefits? Say it ain’t so, Joe!

About abortion: Maybe McCain would not impose a litmus test, but make no mistake – Sarah Palin would have NO problems doing so and I’m 99% sure she would if, God forbid, something did happen.

Last question: Education – Obama said it was more important to economic health than most any other issue and I agree. It is critically important. We need better schools, better paid teachers – reward really high performing teachers – And college should be free. In today’s age, high school does not help you get a job. It doesn’t do much of anything but get you one step closer to college. Our future economic health depends on it.
