My Proposal for Transparent Government
I’m tired of different sides pointing at each other saying, ‘He voted down a bill giving money to soldiers and I didn’t’ or ‘He voted for the bridge to nowhere’ or ‘He voted down a bill that would have protected little old ladies from purse snatchers’.
The truth is – many times politicians will vote down a bill not based on what the bill is proposed to do, but because of all the side items attached to it. I hear talk of transparency in government. The transparency I would really like to see is a move from bills stuffed fatter than a duck about to become foie gras to clean bills. Naked bills. Bills stripped from all earthly possessions. Bills that are straight up. No hidden agendas or pork or beef or even lamb added to it.
That way, when someone votes ‘Yay or Nay’ we know EXACTLY where they stand on the issues. No more fluff to hide behind. Is this too much to ask of our government?
Welcome back!
