Missing In Action

At first I thought it was as simple as my power cord failing. But then, a brand new power cord couldn’t bring my laptop to life. I then discovered the short in the power cord, shorted my laptop. I’m still hopeful I can retrieve my hard drive contents. (And for you geeks out there, no I didn’t back up. I stopped doing that when I stopped actually working a ‘real’ job. Lesson learned. At least there was nothing critical on my laptop.)

Now, I have a juicy, beautiful, sleek new Toshiba laptop. Beautiful. I want to shine it daily. I want to demand rules of myself. (No eating, drinking near the laptop. No allowing the laptop to stay in standby for hours and hours at a time. No more leaving laptop exposed to the destructive forces of three small boys.)

My husband bought me this laptop and now I have the happy of job of configuring everything, loading my software and basically joining the virtual world I have come to love. If I am more silent than usual, it is only because I am absorped in getting my laptop exactly the way I want it. I will be back soon.

Oh, and thank you dear husband. You did well.

Palin’s Hairstylist Earns More Than McCain’s Advisor

So, it appears another revelation was made about Palin’s expenditures to look like Joe Six Pack while campaigning. Her stylist, Amy Strozzi from “So You Think You Can Dance”, earned $22,800 for the first 2 weeks of October. John McCain’s policy advisor, Randy Scheunemann? $12,500 for the same time period.

Ok, so it has nothing to do with issues (of which I am a big proponent for studying) but it is great fodder for showing the HUGELY, distinct difference between the GOP and us normal, six packs.

Join Other Bloggers in Promoting Great Content

As someone relatively new to the blogging world, I’m very interested in not only promoting my own blog but finding great blogs that inspire, entertain or inform me.

So when I saw a tweet from WriterDad about a way to help new bloggers, I was all over it.

In ‘How You Can Help End the Problem of Blogs with Great Content and No Readers’, Chuck proposes a method to supporting new/great/obscure blogs that haven’t found a following while helping everyone else in the process. It’s a great idea and I encourage you to check it out and join up.

How to Google Your Way to Money Savings

Being frugal can involve a lot of planning and organizing. But it doesn’t have to stress you out. Let technology do the work for you. Two words. Google alerts.

Google alerts is a tool that shoots out an email to you on any subject you want when new content is published online with those keywords. You can set an alert for ’saving money on groceries’, select the type of content you want (news, blogs, video, etc.) and choose how often you want an alert sent to you. Set it up and any time new content is found, you receive an email letting you know.

If you know you are in the market for a big ticket purchase soon, use Google alerts to track market news for the product, keep up with the latest product reviews or look for the latest coupons/rebates/sales.

This is a great way to find coupons or sales from your favorite store or product or finding even more creative ways to save some money while saving you time. No more spending hours researching something you want (I’m guilty of this). Let google do it for you.

Save Money By Stocking Your Pantry

It’s redundant to keep saying the economy is bad or in times like these everyone is cutting back. But, it’s true. My most popular posts are those where I share frugal tips and ideas. So, I’m pulling out something I’ve been meaning to share for a while. You can save money on groceries when you shop to stock your pantry versus shopping randomly. And here’s why.

When you have a list of regular staples you can stock them in one of two ways. 1) Keep an eye out for those items being loss leaders at your grocery store, buy a lot and save a ton on things you know you will use. A loss leader is a very low price designed to bring customers in the store. The grocer then hopes to keep you there and spend money on items that aren’t so cheap. Or, 2)Just keep tabs on all your staples and regardless of whether you plan monthly menus or not, you always have something you can whip up to eat because you always have basic ingredients on hand. (Your savings comes from those nights when you look and say, “I don’t have anything to eat at the house” and then head to McD’s  or another trip to the grocery store.) You’ll always be prepared and save time and money by eliminating wasteful trips to the store.

Here’s a sample list to get you started.
