Palin Slashed Funds for Pregnant-Teen Aid – Pro Life Hypocrisy?
I do not think the fact that Palin’s teen daughter will be giving birth soon is relevant to the qualifications of her candidacy. I do, however, think her position on abortion deserves thought and consideration.
I’ve written before and I’ll say it again – I am NOT a fan of abortion, however, I am pro-choice. My own personal opinion is that we must regulate it, protect the lives of women and their privacy and do what can be done to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies. I’ve also said I find the thought of abortion repulsive but do not feel I have the right to stand in judgment of someone else. But this post is not about my position. It is about Sarah Palin’s.
It’s not new to hear Sarah Palin is pro-life. And I’m thrilled to know her daughter has the support of her family in this difficult time. But, and this bugs me about a lot of pro-lifers in general, it seems the compassion and regard for life ends at birth. As governor of Alaska, Mrs. Palin used her item line veto power to cut the budget set aside for troubled teen programs, in particular, one program that helps teen mothers adjust and gives them support as they try to build their lives after giving birth. You can read the story here.
I just have to ask the question because she is making such a spectacle of her pro-life stance. Isn’t this somehow hypocritical? Does it strike you a little ‘off’, even if you can’t explain why, that she has made news of how she is supporting her own daughter during pregnancy, but as Governor of Alaska decided other people’s daughters didn’t need that much support?
Regardless of your thoughts on abortion itself, what does it tell you about the character of Gov. Palin? Think about this for awhile.
Welcome back!

[...] ok – Gov. Palin already had the chance as Governor of Alaska, even before the question is returned to the states, to show that compassion [...]

I really don’t support Palin, but I also think that her family life needs to be left out of the election, it’s just not fair to scrutinize people’s personal lives.
Michael James Rileys last blog post..Hey, let’s give Palin the nuclear codes, she’s a capable person.

I agree. For one thing, when it comes down to it, you can tell a teenager anything and everything, but they will do what they want. You can’t control them.
But I do think it is fair to examine her policies and what she has actually done in office.
