No More Texting in CA Behind the Wheel

So, the Governor has signed a law making it illegal to text while driving. First of all – it’s about time. Second – it’s just a sad commentary on people’s ability to evaluate risk vs. benefit that we would even have to have someone to tell us NOT to text while driving. Maybe that is the reason we are in such a big financial crisis – people aren’t able to clearly see cause and effect and do STUPID stuff not considering it could have damaging results. (How would you feel looking at the mom whose infant just died in the car crash you caused by texting ‘wtf’ to your buddies?)

So, I guess what’s next is everyone will have to come up with another stupid behavior to attempt while driving. I would have thought a ‘no texting’ law would have been equal to “Here’s your sign” comedy popular in the 90s.  But perhaps there are a lot of people out there who do need a ‘sign’. 

So, in the spirit of the moment, here are a few predictions for laws we might need if people continue their stupidity.

1. Holding the wheel while driving will become mandatory
2. Driving with eyes open will become mandatory
3. Dancing the macarena while driving will become illegal
4. Watching TV while driving will become illegal
5. Using the gas pedal with your foot rather than your hand will become mandatory
6. Labels, clearly defining which appendage is used for operating a vehicle, will become mandatory
7. Blogging while driving will become illegal unless dictation software and a wireless headset is used

I’m sure some most of you out there are much funnier than me. If you have an idea for an absurd ‘heres your sign’ type law to suggest on ANYTHING, let me know. To keep from crying about what’s going on in this grand country of ours, sometimes all you can do is laugh. I’m ready for my laugh.
