Getting it Out of My System

There is so much, so much I want to blog about but I can’t put it all in one post. So, I’m doing a series of ‘getting it out of my system’ posts. The first one?

I’ll share a video going around on YouTube. It’s 8 minutes long, but worth the time to watch it. I wonder, sometimes, where the outrage over the Iraq war is and then I realize a few things.

  1. There is no draft (and thank God!) so no one is forced to go that doesn’t want to go.
  2. We are worried about our homes going into foreclosure and shelter is a basic need.
  3. We are worried about losing our jobs and without jobs, we could not pay our mortgages and rents and put food on the table for our children or pay the gas bill, and all these are basic needs.
  4. Many of us face life without healthcare and know the fear and uncertainty about what would happen if ‘something’ happened. And then there are who are in the midst of that ‘something’. These are basic needs.

Life in America now is not the abundance we were brought up to believe. We are each in the middle of her own crisis and have concerns pressing about us – if our own are not in Iraq, it can be easy to forget that others are.

It’s time to end the war in a responsible way. This video is worth checking out. I’m upset that some would think because I disagree with the current administration’s policies, I am against our soldiers. I am not. They deserve honor, respect and admiration. They also deserve to receive the best health care possible when they come home. To treat them otherwise is shameful.
